. . more
Reach Out and Read is expanding rapidly across Arkansas. Currently, more
than 76,000 well child check ups are provided each year at the 35 clinics
that implement the Reach Out and Read program, and eight other clinics
serving thousands of children are waiting to join them. But we need your
continued help to take it to this next level. Will you renew your support
and sponsor this year’s event? Our goal is to raise $60,000 and with your
help, we can reach and hopefully exceed this goal.
Reach Out and Read began in 1989 as a way for pediatric health care
providers to intervene in children’s poor skill development and lack of
readiness for school. At each well child check up, children ages six months
to five years receive a new book and providers speak with parents about the
importance of sharing books with their children every day. As a result,
fifteen peer-reviewed, scientific studies have shown that parents read to
their children more frequently and children gain early literacy skills and
score higher on school readiness assessments. In recognition, the Library of
Congress recently honored Reach Out and Read as the inaugural recipient of
the nation’s highest award for literacy.
Reach Out and Read Arkansas truly makes a difference in helping our children
build strong early literacy skills. But, to continue the success of this
program we need your financial support. Will you help Reach Out and Read
fill a child’s Prescription for Success and consider being a sponsor today?
Please partner with us as an advocate for early childhood literacy success and
